Edward P. Nicolay

PELHAM - Edward P. Nicolay, 90, died on Feb. 26, 2012, at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation in Hadley.

Born March 21, 1921, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Albert and Frances (Schoof) Nicolay.

He graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. Edward served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II and completed 65 missions in the South Pacific, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel from the Air Force Reserves. He moved to Pelham in 1963 and was very active in the town. He was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ of Pelham. Edward was a master Mason for over 65 years.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marion Nicolay; his son, Peter Nicolay and wife, Marita of Enfield, Conn.; his daughters, Robin Wittmann and husband, Gary of Westboro and Sara Dufek of Wood Ridge, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Herbert.

Funeral services were held March 3 at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst.
