About
Belinda Cordelia Brewer
Belinda was born August 5, 1805 in Wilbraham.
She was a sister of Pelham resident Henry Bridgman Brewer who lived on Brewer Road.
AIso, she was an aunt of long-time Pelham residents John Lincoln Brewer (former selectman) and Marie Louise Brewer who wrote "The Valley Road and Silver Street".
Belinda was l3 when she embroidered the sampler of Pelham Town Hall, probably the earliest known image of this building (Mrs.M. Louise Brewer presented the sampler to the Pelham Old Home Association in 1930. ). She was staying for a period with the family of Dr. Abia Southworth at 377 Amherst Road (home at comer of Amherst Road and Daniel Shays Highway). The Southworth's daughter, Mary, was living with the Brewer family in Wilbraham at that time. For unknown reasons, there appears to have been some sort of family visitation exchange.
Frances Eaton, the instructress noted on the sampler, is not known to the Pelham archivist. There
were Eatons on Pelham Hill, including those named Frances, but not matching this time period.
