Description:
This billfold belonged either to David Conkey, Sr. [1748-1828] or to hs son David Conkey, Jr. [1775-1861].
David, Sr. was a Pelham Shaysite who signed the Oath of Allegiance in 1787. He was son of Conkey's Tavern owner William Conkey, Sr. [1717-1788]. He was a Pelham Selectman and Treasurer for many years.
David, Jr., like his father, also served as Selectman and Town Treasurer.
This branch of the Conkey family had extensive land holdings besides the West Branch of the Swift River bordering the Town of Belchertown.
